Magnolia does not bloom, what to do?
Magnolias are among the oldest plant groups on our planet and impress with their impressive beauty, especially when they are in full bloom in spring. Sometimes, however, the freshly planted magnolia tree does not want to show its splendor.
Garden owners need a lot of patience
Do not be surprised if your magnolia, which was planted four years ago, simply does not want to bloom - many specimens only show their flowers after several years of existence. So do not lose your patience, just wait and just keep hoping ... someday your magnolia will bloom and make up for the long wait! Magnolias are not native to us, but originate from Asia or North America. In addition, they are true divas who first have to acclimatize to a new location.
Some magnolias bloom only in the summer
However, some varieties of magnolia do not really bloom until the summer. These late-flowering varieties only open their flowering from June / July. So if your specimen shows no buds in the spring, then just check the variety label, maybe you have just caught one such late flowering tree. Incidentally, some tulip magnolia flower a second time in August, though not as abundantly as the first spring bloom.
Check conditions
If your magnolia does not want to flower, it may also be due to non-species-appropriate conditions. The exotic trees are very sensitive and need a good, sunny and sheltered location as well as humus, slightly acid soil. In addition, magnolias do not like having their root area planted with ground cover, turf or other growths. The roots grow very close to the surface of the earth and a subplantation pulls the moisture out of the soil. Lack of moisture also does not like magnolias, which is why they should be watered regularly in dry seasons and in hot summers. Magnolias kept in the room usually do not bloom either.
Tips & Tricks
If your magnolia does not bloom, please do not touch it with the pair of scissors - the sensitive plant is especially poor at tolerating radical cuts. For this reason, a cut is useful only for dead or sick branches as well as for the illumination of a too dense crown.
