Repot the Canary date palm
Repotting the easy-to-care Canary date palm should be regularly on the program. The palm is growing relatively quickly out of its previous pot. Replacing the substrate also ensures that the Canary date palm is well supplied with nutrients.
When does the Canary date palm have to be repotted?
At the latest, if the pot for the Canary date palm has become too small, you should think about repotting the palm. The plant is pushed upwards by its tap roots, so that the roots protrude above the pot edge.
Even if the pot or bucket is still sufficient, it is worth repotting the Canary date palm every year. The old pot continues to be used and only the old soil is replaced by fresh substrate.
The best time to repot is the early spring after the winter.

Canary date palms form long, sometimes very strong taproots. That is why deep tubs and pots are particularly suitable for these palms.
The new planter should not only be larger in diameter but also deeper than the old pot. Only then will the roots have enough space.

When repotting the Canary date palm, you must be very careful not to damage the tap roots. Breaking the roots can cause the palm to enter.
Shake off the old substrate. You can also shed the roots with a not too hard shower to remove the used earth. Then place them in the prepared planter and fill this with soil until the palm has a good state again.
Then you continue to cultivate the Canary date palm as usual. However, you must not fertilize them in the first months after moving so that the palm is not overfertilized.
Tips
The substrate for the Canary date palm can easily be put together by yourself. You will need compost earth to mix with gravel, sand, expanded clay or lava granules. This palm soil does not collapse as quickly as many conventional substrates offered for palms.
