The Canary Island Date Palm can stay out all year round
So hibernate a Canary date palm
Canary date palms are conditionally hardy. They tolerate low minus temperatures. When cultivating a Canary date palm in the tub, however, you should take appropriate measures to protect it from too much frost.
Correctly overwinter Canary date palm
Even though Canary date palms are conditionally hardy, you should overwinter them in the tub better frost-free.
Move the pot to a location where temperatures are ideally between ten and twelve degrees. The place should be bright but not too sunny. Well suited are cool entrance areas or an unheated conservatory, which is protected by frost guard.
In winter, the Canary date palm is cast much sparser. Do not fertilize the palm during the winter months either. After hibernation, topple the plant.
Tips
In a sheltered location, you can maintain a Canary date palm outside year-round. The temperatures should not sink lower than -6 degrees. Protect the palm tree with fleece or burlap from frost.
