Originally, the maple (Acer Negundo) from North America, which is a real eye-catcher in the garden with its pretty feathered. Particularly popular are the varieties with the "colorful", d. Worldwide there are about 200 different maple species, for which a general rule applies: they should not be circumcised if possible. Maples tolerate a pruning only very badly, often react with fungal diseases and dwarfism on such measures. In addition, maple trees have a strong bleeding tendency, so they should never be cut in the cold season. Not so the ash maple: Acer Negundo can be easily cut back, even to just above the ground. As one of the few maples, this species is capable of exorcising directly from the hive.


The right time

Unfortunately, however, the ash maple is also quite susceptible to fungal diseases, especially for infection with the red pustule disease. However, such (as well as other fungal infections) can be avoided by choosing the proper cutting time. Since the danger is the lowest in the months of September / October, you should grab the pruner in this time. The bleeding tendency is less pronounced in the early autumn months. By no means should be cut in winter or in early spring.

Rules for pruning

You can also prevent a fungal infection by adhering to certain rules, with particular attention being paid to hygiene.

When cutting, make sure you also have a visually pleasing cut. This is achieved, for example, when you trim the ash maple pyramid-shaped: The center drive stays a little longer than the other shoots, and also follows a step-wise cut from top to bottom. The upper shoots are shorter than the lower ones.
